Similar to the Capesizes, for the smaller sizes like the Supramax and Ultramax bulk carrier vessels, the Pacific basin is the place to be for the moment as in the Atlantic spot freight rates cannot hold to last-done levels. A ten-year-old Ultramax ship is rumoured to have been fixed for a steel cargo from the Russian Baltic into the Continent at a rate of around US$ 16,000 daily with the vessel open in ARAG. In the East, a short period has been done on an Ultramax vessel for about US$ 20,000 daily. Handysizes can be concluded at rates of around US$ 12,000 daily for a trip into Indonesia with delivery in the Japan-Korea range. A 30,000mt of HBI is rumoured as having been fixed at about US$ 24/mt from Libya into the upper Adriatic. (For news & updates on dry bulk shipbroking, subscribe to the BMTI Daily Report.)
