Owners of eastern-based Panamaxes are sounding more optimistic than they’ve been nearly all month with a new wave of inter-Pac demand having pushed recent levels into the high teens of US$ 17-18,000 daily and higher on modern tonnage of 82,000 dwt. In Southeast Asia, there is talk of Kamsarmax tonnage moving from Indonesia to South Korea at upwards of US$ 18,000 daily. Round trips from Taiwan via Australia to Japan are said to be moving toward as much as US$ 19,000 daily for early September dates.
